About the Copper City Inn
Fred
Miller is the owner/operator of Copper City Inn. He has been
the bartender at Cafe Roka for the past 12 years and continues
working there. Copper City Inn came about because of Fred's desire
to create overnight accommodations that stressed quality and
attention to detail that would make stays memorable for visitors.
He has tried to create an affordable and sensual Inn that he
would like to go to when traveling.
The dominant ethos for Fred is that when a person lives in an
area it is incumbent to participate in the life of the place
in order to strengthen and build community so it continually
is becoming a better place for all residents. To that end he
has done extensive volunteer work. He is a founder and president
of the Bisbee Bloomers, a volunteer environmental improvement
group that hosts the annual Bisbee Garden Tour. He is a past
president and board member of Save Our Stairs, the Bisbee 1000
Stair Climb and he continues to volunteer for that event. He
has also been active in several political campaigns and local
tourism efforts. He has lived in the Warren district of Bisbee
for several years where, as a long time jazz lover, he nourishes
and bathes his garden roses in cool jazz sounds of Miles, Ella,
Stan, Mose, and many others. Among other interests he is the
film reviewer for the Bisbee Marquee, an online magazine, (www.bisbeemarquee.com,
an excellent introduction to Bisbee). He is the sole owner and
single employee of Timeless Town Professional Services specializing
in audio-to-hard copy legal transcription and Macintosh computer
consulting.
He has experienced the world through labor. He learned much
about life as a caddy at a golf course, rack boy in a pool hall,
and pinsetter in a bowling alley (two very short duration jobs
because his parents discovered his whereabouts). Among the work
he has done: an electrician in the US Navy, a recycler in a screw
factory, clerk in a dirty book store, provider of nickel dinners
to homeless hippies, music critic for an alternative newspaper,
sweeper a Disneyland, USPS mailman, foreman in a doll factory,
organic farmer, and lobbyist for reforestation, pesticide, and
environmental issues.
Before moving to Bisbee, he lived in San Francisco for 12 years
where he was a waiter, union activist, and an elected financial
trustee for the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union, Local 2.
Prior to living in SF while in Eugene, Oregon he was one of the
founders and director of the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives
to Pesticides (NCAP) for several years, He has also worked as
a tree planter and logger, and was one of the many founders of
the Hoedads Reforestation Cooperative. And way back, in Long
Beach, CA he was the co-owner o the Phinius store which was the
hub of many cultural and political endeavors.
He is weary from all that work.
